During an active booking, how you secure and reopen your vehicle depends on whether it uses a physical key or a digital key (app-based control).
1. 🔑 Vehicles with a Physical Key
For vehicles equipped with a physical key (usually stored in a dedicated key holder inside the glove compartment):
During a stopover: Always take the physical key with you and lock/unlock the doors using the key buttons, just like a normal car.
At the end of your booking: Place the key back into its holder in the glove box, step out, close all doors, and tap "End Booking" in the app. The vehicle will lock automatically.
2. 📱 Vehicles with a Digital Key (In-App "Vehicle Controls")
For vehicles that do not use a physical key, all lock operations during your trip are managed directly from your smartphone.
Accessing the Controls: On the active booking screen, tap the white "Vehicle Controls" button at the bottom of the screen.
During a stopover: Tap "Lock" to secure the vehicle and let the vehicle be parked. When you return, tap "Unlock" to reopen.
3. 🔒 Safety Layer: Automatic Relocking (Auto-Lock)
To prevent unauthorized access, some vehicle models have a built-in security feature enforced by the manufacturer:
If the vehicle is unlocked via the app but no doors are physically opened within a given time frame (usually 30 seconds), the central locking will automatically relock the car.
What to do: Simply open the "Vehicle Controls" screen in your app and tap "Unlock" again to open the doors.
Tip: For more details on why this happens and how to configure it on your fleet, see our dedicated guide: Auto-lock: why some vehicles re-lock after unlocking.
